Day Sixteen’s Challenge:
Perform a random act of kindness on yourself.
Today might very well be one of my favorite challenges: perform an act of kindness for you. Buy yourself flowers or a new pair of shoes. Take a bubble bath or a long, hot shower. Get a massage – even if it’s just a foot massage. Order a decadent dessert. Bottom line: treat yourself to a little something. This is particularly important if you are the type of person that always puts others’ needs before your own.
This is another challenge that could become a daily habit. Not that you have to do something extraordinary everyday, but more along the lines of being aware that you are doing little things for yourself: taking 10 minutes to meditate, drinking enough water, or making sure you are moving about throughout the day (if you sit at a desk all day). Then, every once in a while, for no other reason than you are worth it, treat yourself to something special.
I’m calling my favorite massage therapist and setting up a hot stone massage for next week. That’s my special act of kindness to myself. And every day I consciously make an effort to take the best care of me as a kindness to myself. If I’m at my best, than I can do my best in helping others.
