Color

Self-care: colorDay Twenty-one’s Challenge:
Grab some crayons (or markers) and color.

When was the last time you took some crayons or colored pencils and drew or colored a picture? I used to be secretly excited whenever my children wanted me to color with them. I love to color, but it seemed like such a childish thing to do. I know that there are coloring books that are targeted to adults, often with more geometric offerings and less cartoon characters. A long-time quilter, my secret love of coloring manifested itself in playing around with color combinations on graph paper to help finalize quilt designs.

So today’s challenge is to color. Whether you have to “borrow” your children’s box of crayons or use the office highlighters, download our Mandala to Color (pictured above) or go a step further and create your own zentangle.(link to tutorial) or mandala. When you’re done – frame it or toss it – the point is to have fun and reconnect with your inner child.

Furthermore, studies have shown that coloring can reduce stress, unlock your creative side, and still stimulates motor skills (even in adults). What are you waiting for?!
