Day Twenty-six’s Challenge:
Sing!
Way back on day six, you had the challenge to dance with abandon. Today’s challenge is similar: sing like no one can hear you. Sing loudly. Make a joyful noise. Sing in your car or the shower or the kitchen.
It’s good for your lungs and good for your soul. Music is the poetry of the soul and singing is a way to experience it. Breathing deeply to really sing stimulates nerve endings in your lungs that signal the release of endorphins (pain relief hormones).
Recent studies suggest that singing with a group has greater health and happiness benefits than just singing alone, although there are still plenty of benefits from singing alone in the shower. Choral singers noted that their overall psychological health was better with less anxiety and depression levels than their non-singing counterparts, stress factors being equal.
So take a deep breath and sing your heart out!
