Organize Your Workspace

Self-care: organize your work areaDay Twenty-seven’s Challenge:
Organize your work space.

Today’s challenge is to take a look at your workspace – wherever that may be – and make sure that is efficient and decluttered. I work from home in a lovely, newly redone (within last 5 years) space in my basement. The walls are a lovely shade of light green, which I call “happy green.” But I seem to collect stuff: papers, sticky notes, water bottles, note cards, more papers, etc. So I recently decided to give it a quick declutter and found that I was less distracted and could focus better on my work.

I have before and after photos to show you:

There was a lot of clutter and unnecessary stuff in my workspace. Some of it was even blocking things I like to look at or use. Once I cleaned up I could see the photos of my children and my Buddha Board (see below for what a Buddha Board is). Only the papers that I was currently using (like the list of the 30 day challenges and my health coaching notebook) were out. The rest of my papers got filed or tossed.

Now I’ll confess that at the end of each workday my space isn’t always this organized. But I do spend a few minutes a couple of times a week filing papers and cleaning off unneeded stuff. It’s very gratifying to sit down each morning to an uncluttered desk.

If I could just get the rest of the house under control… baby steps!

What does your work space look like?
